Annual Conference 2018 Call for Presentation Proposals

Save the Date: April 13 - 14, 2018

"Leveraging Technology in Physical Therapy Practice: Application, Translation, Innovation"

Physical therapy professionals are on the cutting edge of technological advancements.  APTA’s Frontiers in Research, Science, and Technology (FiRST) Council has identified a goal to “Leverage … technological discoveries to advance physical therapist practice, education, and research.”[1] Furthermore, APTA's Vision Statement for the physical therapy profession identifies the principles of, “Identity, Quality, Collaboration, Value, Innovation, Consumer-centricity, Access/Equity, and Advocacy [as demonstrating] how the profession and society will look when the vision is achieved.”[2] Considering the societal impact physical therapy professionals make in the five core roles (management of patients/clients, consultation, education, research, and administration),[3] how will we more effectively achieve APTA’s vision with the optimal use of technological advancements?

Are you a leader in the use of technology in clinical practice, consultation, education, research, administration, or a nontraditional physical therapy role?  You might be the speaker we are looking for.  What expertise or experience can you share that will help physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students enhance their practice, education, and research with the use of technological advancements?

OPTA is seeking presentations that link evidence and practice (LEAP) in all areas of practice and focus on leveraging technology for the advancement of the physical therapy profession in the following Vision Statement Categories:

  • QUALITY - technology in advanced practice, academic/instruction, outcomes, patient/client satisfaction
  • COLLABORATION - technology in management, community involvement, researcher-clinician-educator collaboration/LEAP, interdisciplinary synergy and continuity of care, PT/PTA teamwork
  • VALUE - technology in reimbursement/pay for performance, self-pay, workflow and efficiency, equity/cost effectiveness/value
  • INNOVATION - technology in nontraditional physical therapy roles, contemporary healthcare delivery models, advancements in practice patterns, new education delivery models, sensors and robotics
  • CUSTOMER CENTRICITY - technology in cultural competence, ethics, community integration
  • ACCESS/EQUITY - technology in innovative service delivery, telehealth, community outreach, philanthropy, global health
  • ADVOCACY - association leadership, transforming society, political advocacy
